Last week, I had occasion to be in a village near the city of Nottingham, home of the fabled Robin Hood.  Unfortunately, he was not at home so I did not have the opportunity to meet with him and discuss the Health and Safety issues relating to his indiscriminate firing of arrows.

The reason for my visit, was to deliver some Fire Safety and Health & Safety training, all of which went well resulting in another happy client.  So smiles all around.  Well nearly, there was one small “blip” on my otherwise sunny horizon and this “blip” is the reason for the title of this particular entry onto my blog.

Due to the distance involved, I had travelled down the day before and stayed over close to the location where the training was to be delivered.  Having had a rather poor nights sleep I showered and dressed for the day.  Unfortunately, as I was dressing I discovered that I was unable to locate my cufflinks and despite a thorough search they remained illusive.

I appreciate that cufflinks may not be everyone’s idea of sartorial elegance but it is an affectation that I developed in my youth when, I was given a pair as a present.  As I habitually wear a shirt and tie, I feel somewhat under-dressed if I am without a pair of cufflinks.

Anyway, there was nothing to be done and so off I went about my day’s business, though being a little somewhat  obsessive I could not help thinking about the possible location of my cufflinks.  Therefore, in order to quite my nagging mind I resolved to search for them when I got home.

And so on my return, I duly set about a thorough search of the likely hiding places.  Eventually, to secure some peace and quite the family enquired, albeit grudgingly and without much good grace, if they could aid in my quest.  Thanking them for their belated offer I explained that I was seeking a pair of elusive cufflinks.

Now as I have quite a few pairs and no doubt wishing to be as helpful as possible in locating the errant pair, the family naturally asked which particular pair was it that I sought?  Now when I replied that it was a set from the Sherlock Holmes Society everyone, with the exception of myself, fell about in fits of laughter.  It would appear that there is a certain irony in loosing and then being unable to find a pair of cufflinks from the Sherlock Holmes Society.

Hopefully, when the fits of merriment cease we may be able to resume our search and solve this most perplexing of puzzles – the case of the missing cufflinks.  Though in all honestly I do not hold out much hope!
