Course Description

Children, Young People & Vulnerable adults require special care and protection and it is important that those individuals who come into contact and interact with them have an understanding not only of their needs but also of any special welfare issues.

This Level 3 course is suitable for anyone who works with any of the subject groups i.e. Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults. It has been designed to ensure that such personal are aware of and understand their responsibilities with regard to those who may be under their care.

The course will provide a firm foundation and allow those attending to increase and improve their knowledge of the issues relating to the safeguarding of Children, Young People or vulnerable adults and the challenges that this can bring. In so doing it will provide a thorough overview of how to recognise the warning signs of abuse, and provide the knowledge of how such concerns need to be addressed. This knowledge should not only increase the confidence of those attending the course but also better equip them to undertake their roles more effectively.

Course Duration

This is a one-day course and consists of 6 contact hours of theoretical and interactive group tasks. Dependant on the student’s prior experience there may be a requirement for some pre-course work. In such an event support and guidance can, if required, be provided to the student.

Course Syllabus

The course syllabus includes the following topics:

  • Introduction – Defining safeguarding and Safeguarding legislation and guidance. Roles & Responsibilities
  • Types of Abuse – Categories of abuse: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual and acts of omission
  • Indictors of abuse or neglect – What is abuse, consent, factors that can increase risk and mental capacity
  • Making judgements, Communication & Sharing of Information
  • Responding to disclosure – How to respond to a disclosure, why some vulnerable individuals often do not disclose information and what to do next
  • Reporting your concerns – Your responsibilities, Dealing with and reporting of allegations and complaints
  • Record keeping – What information to record and how

Certification

Subject to successful assessment, all participants will be issued with a Level 2 Award in Safeguarding Adults. It is strongly recommended that all students attend an annual refresher course.

Course Numbers

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and each participant must be aged a minimum of 18 years or above.

Assessment

All students will be subject to on-going assessment during the course and they will then be required to sit a theoretical, multiple-choice question test paper.

Location

We are able to offer this course at your location, subject to a pre-course assessment of your premises, thus reducing your costs in respect of additional time out and travelling.
